Thousands of people have visited Inverness Town House following the completion of interior works at the historic building.

More than 3,000 people passed through the doors of the Grade-A listed building during an open weekend on Saturday, 10 February and Sunday, 11 February.

The renovation works were carried out by Laing Traditional Masonry on time and under budget. The cost for Phase 1 and 2 was £3.9 million, funded by the Inverness Common Good Fund and Historic Environment Scotland, and delivered £300,000 under budget.

Phase 3 of the works will include full stone repairs and replacement, mortar re-pointing, guttering and window repairs and replacement. The overall cost of the project is in the region of £5.4m.

Provost of Inverness and Area, Cllr Helen Carmichael, said: "It has long been an aspiration of Inverness Councillors to see the Town House open to the general public on a regular basis.

"For many years the Town House has participated in the annual national Doors Open Days scheme, bit this was only once a year.

"Now that the interior repairs and redecoration are complete on the main rooms in the building (and given the success of this past weekend) we are working on a plan to open the Town House on Thursdays to the public. Further details will be made available in due course."
