CH2M Hill UK has won a £974,500 contract to provide consultancy services for the design of a flood protection scheme in Musselburgh, East Lothian.
A Local Flood Risk Management Plan approve by the council in 2016 identified a number of measures required to mitigate possible flood concerns in areas of East Lothian.
The Musselburgh Flood Protection Scheme is included in the Local Flood Risk Management Plan. The Scottish Government will contribute 80% of costs towards the development.
Cabinet Member for Environment, Cllr Norman Hampshire, said: "The Musselburgh Flood Protection Scheme is a considerable project to protect properties and infrastructure that is at risk of flood events deriving from the River Esk through the town, the Pinkie Burn, and the coast.
"The consultancy services contract was awarded following a tender exercise procured through Public Contracts Scotland and the company will work with the council's project team to advance the scheme."
Conor Price, Project Manager for the scheme, said: "This is a major step forward for the project. Over the coming months we will be opening up consultation with organisations, businesses and the people of Musselburgh so that we can design a scheme best suited to the particular requirements of this historic town."
