Dundee Road Maintenance Partnerships Could Be Extended

Construction News Image
Dundee City Council have announced that two partnerships that have consistently delivered better road maintenance and street lighting could be extended.

The current three year deals with Tayside Contracts are due to run out in March and councillors will be asked to extend these to a five year run ending in 2023.

Mark Flynn depute convener of Dundee City Council's city development committee said: "Since the inception of the Road Maintenance Partnership and the Street Lighting Partnership we have made considerable savings while continuing to improve the level of service to the people of Dundee.

"According to the most recent statistics from 2016/17 the condition of our road network remains in the top half of Scottish local council areas, while our street lighting performs to a similarly high level.

"Our lights are the most reliable of any Scottish city with the fewest reported lighting faults while we annually consume the least amount of electricity per street light with the lowest CO² emissions of any Scottish city.

"This impressive performance is in no small way the result of the close working relationships that have grown up through the two partnerships."

Roads in Dundee are maintained jointly by Dundee City Council and Tayside Contracts as the Roads Maintenance Partnership.

Its work is monitored and compared with national standards and based on 77 key performance indicators.

The on-going successful street lighting partnership between the council and Tayside Contracts repairs and maintains more than 24,000 street lights in Dundee.

A five year term for each of the partnerships will bring them into line with the period of the current Council Service Plan.

If the city development committee, which meets on Monday (January 22), backs the move both partnerships will continue to work with local and national bodies to deliver the Scottish Government's objective of increasing partnership working in line with its Efficient Government agenda.
