aBV To Start Sewer Renewal Works In Strathpeffer

Construction News Image
Contractor amey-Black and Veatch (aBV) is to begin carrying out sewer renewal works at a village in the Highlands.

aBV will carry out the first section of the scheme, which involves rebuilding a manhole beneath the A834 at the bottom of Garden House Brae in Strathpeffer, between the Square and the primary school.

To carry out the project safely, a short section of the A834 will be closed to traffic for up to three weeks from Monday, 22 January. Diversions will be in place.

Scott Heath, Senior Project Manager for aBV, said: "We recognise that the need to close the A834 will cause disruption. Unfortunately, at this location there is no other way to complete the work that is needed safely.

"We are very grateful for the community’s input over the last year while we have been planning this work. As a result of those discussions, the timing of the work has been carefully chosen to reduce the impact on the local community and businesses as far as possible – particularly by avoiding the build-up to Christmas, the annual Strathpuffer event and the peak tourist season.

"Our team will endeavour to complete the phase of work that requires the road closure as quickly as we can - and we are putting mitigation measures in place to help minimise the inconvenience for residents in the meantime."

Gavin Steel, Corporate Affairs Manager at Scottish Water, said: "We need to carry out this work to ensure Strathpeffer’s sewer network can continue to serve customers and protect the local environment in the years ahead. I would like to thank everyone locally who has contributed to our preparations during the course of last year – most recently at the information event we held in November.

"We hope that the timing of the work and the measures we have put in place will significantly reduce the impact of the road closure on local residents and businesses."
