Up to 89 jobs have been lost at sawmill and timber supplier, James Callander & Son, after the business entered into administration.

Blair Nimmo and Tony Friar of KPMG have been appointed as joint administrators to the Falkirk-based company, which is said to have been affected by challenging trading conditions and significant cash flow difficulties. The firm had made several losses recently despite turning over £12 million annually.


A total of 89 staff have been made redundant, with six staff having been kept on to help find buyers for the firm's equipment and premises.

Blair Nimmo, joint administrator and KPMG's global head of restructuring, said: "Unfortunately, James Callander and Son was unable to continue in light of challenging trading conditions and significant cash flow difficulties.

"This has, in turn, resulted in the redundancies which have been announced today. We will be working with all affected employees and the relevant government agencies to ensure a full range of support is available.

"We will also be exploring the possibility of securing a sale of the company's assets and would encourage any interested parties to contact us as soon as possible."
