Construction work on a new £1 million nursery at Mid Calder Primary School in West Lothian is now complete.

The new energy-efficient facility has been built by Hadden Construction.

The old nursery building has been demolished to make way for the improvements. Further work will now get underway including a new nursery playground and pedestrian access way to the school.

Speaking after opening the facility, Cllr David Dodds said: "We're delighted with the new £1 million nursery at Mid Calder Primary. The standard of work on the project has been fantastic and the new facility will provide a great setting for pupils ensuring they get the best possible start to their education.


"This all comes as part of West Lothian's commitment to having one of the best school estates in the country, with £65 million spent on education infrastructure improvements since 2012 and further £40 million planned over the next two years to deliver the ideal educational environment."

Mid Calder Head Teacher Mary McKenzie added: "The new facility is free - flowing giving the pupils greater access to choosing whether they want to be indoors or outdoors which is already making a positive difference to the children's learning."
