A total of 16 family homes will be developed on the site of the former Heathery Knowe Primary School in East Kilbride. Work is scheduled to start before the end of this financial year.
Elsewhere, 20 homes will be built on the site of the former St Blanes Primary School in Blantyre.
The new housing forms part of the council's plans to deliver 1,000 new homes in the region by 2021.

Cllr Josh Wilson said: "We are delighted with the progress of the council's new-build housing programme with these developments in Blantyre and East Kilbride forming part of the council's commitment to deliver 1000 new homes across the authority by 2021.
"As with all our developments these new homes will be built to the highest standards with enhanced insulation, modern heating systems and renewable technologies such as solar panels."
Daniel Lowe, Executive Director of Housing and Technical Resources, added: "We are committed to our HOME+ programme which in addition to 1000 new homes will also see significant investment in existing housing stock. Residents across South Lanarkshire will benefit from improvements planned which include energy efficiency measures such as new heating systems and insulation."
