ISG has reached a project milestone on a new £20 million four-star hotel development in Edinburgh.
The 98-room boutique hotel scheme in the city's Old Town has achieved the 'topping out' stage and work on the exterior and interior of the building will now accelerate, with completion on schedule for late summer 2018.
The seven-storey hotel on Market Street is being delivered by ISG on behalf of developer EDI Group and the Carlton Hotel Collection.
Once finished, it will transform the last remaining gap site on the northern boundary of the Old Town and feature a top floor lounge with panoramic views across the Waverley Valley from Princes Street Gardens to Calton Hill, including a specially-designed champagne bar roof terrace.
Speaking at the 'topping out' ceremony this week, EDI Group's Operations Director Eric Adair said: "Today marks an important milestone in the ambitious project bringing life back to this well-known gap site.
"Creating and constructing a fitting design that works for Market Street has been a challenge for all of the team involved but it is a great example of what EDI can do. With steelwork complete we can now really see the hotel taking shape.
"While there is still much to be done, I have no doubt that the hotel will be a vital addition to the city's hospitality offering for visitors and residents alike in what is a spectacular location."
ISG's Managing Director for UK Construction North and Scotland businesses, Andy McLinden, said: "This is a transformational project for one of the few remaining new build sites in the Old Town area, with a design and exacting specification worthy of this key strategic location. Reaching this milestone is a moment for all project stakeholders to come together and celebrate an immense engineering and construction achievement, that paves the way for an outstanding addition to Edinburgh's acclaimed hospitality offer."
