New plans have been unveiled to redevelop the University of Edinburgh's Teviot Row House.
Following feedback from a public consultation in June, previous multi-million pound proposals to transform the world's oldest purpose built Students' Union have been significantly scaled back.
The new design will now preserve the Teviot Row House garden while additional facilities will be created along Charles Street Lane, forming a new dedicated hub for students by bringing together student services from the University and the Students' Association side by side for the first time.
Overall, Teviot Row House will be completely refurbished and made fully accessible, "keeping its unique character but improving and expanding the range of services offered".
In addition, new connections will be formed with a new student services building on George Square.
Further improvements are being made across student counselling and disability services, as well as developments to sporting facilities, while major investments are being made to improve library and study facilities , to increase teaching spaces, enhance spaces for student societies and develop award-winning student accommodation.
Gavin Douglas, Deputy Secretary of Student Experience at the University, said: "These new proposals enhance the much-loved Teviot while creating vibrant new spaces for all students to access. What our students tell us matters – we've adjusted the designs based on comments from the first consultation and look forward to people letting us know what they think."
