Demolition works are to begin on the bridge carrying the A956 over the A90 at Charleston near Aberdeen.

The scheme, which is subject to weather conditions, it being carried out as part of the Aberdeen Western Peripheral Route/Balmedie to Tipperty (AWPR/B-T) project.

To carry out the project safely, the A90 will be subject to a full closure from around 8pm on 03 November until around 6am on 06 November. Diversions will be in place.


Once the bridge is levelled using specialist plant including breakers, the contractor will remove the debris and open the A90 at the earliest opportunity.

A Transport Scotland spokesperson said: "This is the most significant road closure the contractor has implemented as part of the works and we are anticipating that all approaches and the surrounding roads will be affected.

"Traffic will be diverted off and back onto the A90 via the C5K for those travelling north and via the slip roads for those travelling south. However, we would like to strongly advise road users that they should only travel via Charleston this weekend if it is absolutely necessary."
