Mayfield Park Improvement Works Complete

Construction News Image
News that improvement works to Mayfield Park have been completed have been welcomed by the community and local councillors.

The park has undergone a transformation over the past few months thanks to an Improvement Scheme, supported by the Central Scotland Green Network Development Fund and SUEZ Communities Trust (formerly SITA Trust).

Enhancements include a new multi-use path which now links the park into the town centre from the wider path and cycle network. Ornamental gates have also been refurbished to provide a more attractive welcome to the park while other improvements include the addition of new play equipment. These include a new rotating net and a wheelchair friendly roundabout.

The placement of new native trees and shrub plating has also increased the level of biodiversity in the park.

Due to the improvements there is now interest from the local community council to make the park a more useful space for residents with plans for an outdoor gym being developed.

Councillor John Hackett, Cabinet Member for Commercial Operations, said: "Thanks to the support of the Central Scotland Green Network Development Fund and SUEZ Communities Trust, Mayfield Park is now a greener, healthier and safer place for local people and visitors.

"It is really great to see the finished article and I’m sure the park will be a fantastic asset for the local community."

Keith Geddes, Chair of the Central Scotland Green Network Trust, added: "We are very proud to play our part in supporting the work to improve Mayfield Park which is a very important community resource.

"Our Development Fund is focused on improving access to greenspace which has a positive impact on the quality of life for people living and working in the area and Mayfield Park is an ideal example of the beneficial work delivered through the fund."

Marianne Ivin of SUEZ Communities Trust continued: "Mayfield Park is wonderful local asset and we have been delighted to be able to help provide upgrade to the park which now makes it even more integral to its surroundings."
