New designs have been unveiled for road connectivity projects as part of the £1.13 billion Glasgow City Deal.
Plans include upgrading road connections between Barrhead and Newton Mearns including enhancements to Balgraystone Rd and Aurs Rd;
• Balgraystone Road (opposite St Luke's High School) will be reconstructed to provide improved access to the Country Park and facilitate the development of 200 new homes. This will also create a route to the new railway station and bus interchange. Work is scheduled to begin in early 2018 and completed by Spring that year.
• Aurs Road will be improved over its 1.3km length with two sections of realignment, the creation of a new roundabout and replacement of a weak bridge. This will create a safer, more direct route between Barrhead and Newton Mearns for all road users, as well as providing safe access to and across the Country Park. Work will commence in Spring 2018 and is expected to be completed by Summer 2019.
• A new railway station is planned at Barrhead South on the Glasgow to Neilston line. It will also include a car park and bus interchange providing improved public transport connectivity. Construction of the station is expected to commence in 2019.
• The council are also exploring options to further improve connectivity between Barrhead, Newton Mearns and the M77. This could include new roads as well as improvements to existing routes.
East Renfrewshire's City Deal team will be available to answer questions and show the detailed plans at Barrhead Foundry from 4pm – 7pm on Thursday, 29 June.
