Work On Perth School Repairs Project Complete

Construction News Image
Work on a school repairs project in Perth is now complete.

The scheme at Our Lady's RC Primary School was carried out following an engineer's assessment of the main classroom block.

The four classes of pupils which were temporarily relocated to the St John's Academy campus have now returned to their normal classrooms today, 13 June.

Council Leader Ian Campbell said: "I welcome the news that repairs have been completed at Our Lady's and all pupils will be able to return to their normal classrooms within the 2-3 week timescale originally estimated for the work.

"Checks of all school buildings in Perth and Kinross have been carried out since the tragic incident at Liberton High School in Edinburgh in 2014. These have been visual inspections, backed by referrals for engineering reports where required.

"Following on from the repair work identified at Our Lady's I have asked our officers to supplement these checks with a programme of targeted inspections for schools of a similar condition rating and build style/age as Our Lady's. These checks, in addition to the work which has already been carried out, will ensure that we can give confidence to our parents and teachers on the quality of our school estate.

"The combination of this forward planning, and the quick response seen to any other emerging issues like that seen at Our Lady's should be taken as a positive sign of how seriously this Council takes the safety of our school estate."
