Work Continues On Dumbarton Council Office Refurb Project

Construction News Image
Work is continuing on a council office refurbishment project in Dumbarton, West Dunbartonshire.

A number of buildings in the town centre are being redeveloped to help bring council services closer together for residents.

The first 300 workers are now set to relocate from Garshake Road to Bridge Street in the later part of May and into early June.

The move marks the first of three relocations for staff members, with the Municipal Buildings in Station Road set to open in November and the new Dumbarton town centre office on scheduled to open in January 2018.

The new facility in Church Street will include a public area with multi-use civic space, training and meeting rooms with a substantial new building to the rear containing office space. In addition, the design will retain the A-listed facade of the historic building, which is the former site of Dumbarton Academy, and house 500 Council staff – bringing the total number of Council staff relocating to the town centre to more than 800.

Richard Cairns, the Council's Strategic Director for Regeneration, Environment & Growth, said: "We are very pleased that the first of the big moves into the town centre will be underway next month. The 300 staff moving to Bridge Street will be working in an energy efficient, welcoming building that marks just the first step in bringing Council services closer together for the benefit of residents as well as Council workers.

"Following on from the recent opening of our Clydebank town centre office, this is another positive move to bring more activity and spending into our town centres."
