Nearly £80 million is to be invested in South Ayrshire's housing over the next five years, it has been announced.

The £79m council investment will see new properties built, as well as play areas improved/expanded and upgrades carried out to the existing housing stock.

Over 1,000 properties are also scheduled to receive internal improvements this year.

Other plans include demolishing 24 lock ups in Central Avenue and Brown Avenue in Troon. Once demolition is completed, the council will investigate future options for the sites in consultation with the local community.


Cllr Philip Saxton said: "I am delighted with the funding announcement as it means we can continue to provide modern and energy efficient new builds while transforming existing properties through our extensive improvement programme.

"We have a robust and sustainable business plan in place for the next 30 years, a plan which according to external bodies demonstrates a 'prudent approach' to our housing programme.

"This is not just about bricks and mortar; it's about helping to build communities so I am also pleased that we are also looking at our provision of play areas which brings people together and promotes health and wellbeing."
