CCG Starts Work On £9m Hospice Refurb Project

Construction News Image
CCG has started work on an £9 million hospice refurbishment project in North Lanarkshire.

The scheme at St Andrew's Hospice involves retaining the building's existing façade as well as transforming the internal areas to create more single bedded rooms alongside multi-occupancy rooms.

Other features will include direct garden access, with rooms for visitors to stay overnight. A separate patient entrance will also be created to provide discreet admission to the wards. The scheme will take around 15-18 months to complete.

Calum Murray, Director of CCG said: "This project is a fantastic opportunity to enhance the service provision for patients and users and is a project we care deeply about following our recent completion of other similar projects across Scotland.

"We will work closely with the hospice team to support the good work that they do and seek to minimise disruption during the construction programme."

Bruce High, Chief Executive of St Andrew's Hospice, added: "We are delighted at last to be starting the building stage of this project which has been in the planning for so long. This is the biggest change to the hospice since it was first built 30 years ago.

"Over the next 12 months we will see the hospice being gradually transformed into accommodation that reflects the current needs of our patients and visitors. Future users of the hospice will benefit from a brighter more modern environment with more space, privacy and access to outdoor space in our gardens and courtyard."
