Comhairle nan Eilean Siar (CNES) is seeking views from local residents on its new Local Housing Strategy for 2017 – 2022.

A consultation on the strategy has now been launched to consider four priority areas; Housing Quality; Supply; Homelessness; and Independent Living. The deadline for submissions is 10 March.

The five-year strategy will become the sole local authority strategic document for housing in the area. It details housing outcomes, objectives and actions that the council and local partners believe are the most appropriate to tackle the challenges in the Outer Hebrides' distinctive local housing system.


In addition, CNES said it will contact the voluntary sector, community groups, the construction industry and utility companies over the strategy, as well as partner organisations which will help deliver it. These include the Scottish Government, NHS Western Isles, Tighean Innse Gall, Hebridean Housing Partnership and the Community Trust organisations.
