Kirk Natural Stone Exhibits At PM Expo In Toronto

Construction News Image
Kirk Natural Stone Developments has showcased its insulated Kirk ThermalWall building facing system at The Buildings Show, North America's largest construction show and networking event.

The company also displayed its related open joint rainscreen and jointed un-insulated systems during the event, held at the Metro Convention Centre between 30 November – 02 December in Toronto.

One of the issues affecting traditional masonry construction in Canada, especially central and eastern areas is the weather. Persistent snow and ice occur in the prolonged sub zero Winter temperatures, often resulting in slow progress for building works and the need for elaborate heated temporary shelters to prevent mortar freezing and allow any work to be carried out at all.

Dr Martin Kirk, Managing Director of Kirk Natural Stone Developments, said: "We decided to exhibit at PM Expo because we had heard from various sources that the construction industry in Canada was 'on fire' with opportunities, and we were certainly not disappointed by the reception all our systems received. PM Expo proved to be the best trade show event we have ever participated in and we came away with 57 high quality leads.

"Our systems, mechanically fixed with no resins or cements involved, were therefore of great interest as an alternative to traditional cement based masonry, because they permit good progress to be maintained and are not subject to the same aftercare issues as masonry constructed with cement.

"This aspect, along with the widespread acceptance of retro-fitting existing buildings, especially condos and commercial buildings, compared with total demolition/rebuild more commonly seen in the UK, has generated great interest in our systems for the Canadian market."

Kirk Natural Stone Developments are currently working to convert the interest received at PM Expo, starting with full technical approval and the delivery of 'lunch and learn' seminars to leading Canadian architects, consulting engineers, main contractors and property developers.
