Council To Approve Parks And Open Spaces Upgrade Package

Dundee City Council is set to approve over £250,000 worth of improvements to parks and open spaces across the city.

The upgrade package has been developed in consultation with community officers and local groups, featuring a number of works.

Play area improvements include:

• Milnbank Play Area - remove slabs and replace with rubber mulch safety surface.

• Magdalen Green Play Area - installing a Scramble net and restore safety surfacing.

• Kirkton Central – restore steps and uprights on play equipment, re-paint as required and upgrade safety surfacing.

• Law Crescent - remove play bark and replace with rubber mulch.

Plans for open space improvements are as follows:

• Seabraes - redesign and landscape improvements to south banking, new improved planting, introduction of wildflower/naturalised panels and improvements to existing seating.

• Claypotts Park – part replacement of existing chain link fence; removal and replacement of North chain link fence.

• Monymusk Park – upgrade South Boundary fence, improve and extend  car park, enhance soft landscaped areas by additional tree planting and install benches and bins.

• Fairmuir Park –incorporate the former bowling green into the park with the introduction of a Community Garden area, remove footpath and replace with additional tree planting and wildflower/naturalised areas.

In December, councillors approved plans for £400,000 worth of improvements at other play areas and open spaces across the city.

Cllr Kevin Cordell said: "The on going programme of improvements and upgrades keeps the play areas across the city up to modern standards and refreshes them for each new generation of children that come along.

"The refurbishment at areas of open space not only improve and enhance the local environment for residents and members of the public they also reduce the on going maintenance costs."

The neighbourhood services committee will consider the improvements package at a meeting on Monday, 09 January.
