Environment Secretary Roseanna Cunningham has made visit to view progress on the £20 million Almondbank Flood Prevention Scheme in Perthshire.

The major flood alleviation schemes second phase is being delivered by Balfour Beatty.

Works include building a series of flood defences along the River Almond and developing a temporary flood storage unit. Overall, the project will protect residential households and businesses from the risk of River Almondbank and the East Pow Burn flooding.


Speaking during her visit, Ms Cunningham reaffirmed the Scottish Government's commitment to reducing flood risk in Scottish communities.

She said: "Last year we saw the devastating effects of exceptional flooding with storms battering our communities and businesses. It's impossible to predict what this winter holds but I want to provide  communities with an assurance that we are committed to doing everything we can to protect them from damage.

"Here in Perthshire it is fantastic to see work progressing on the Almondbank Flood Prevention Scheme which will protect residential houses and small and medium sized enterprises in the nearby industrial estate, for years to come."
