Detailed designs are to be drawn up for a new community facility in Auchinairn, East Dunbartonshire.

Councillors agreed to proceed with the next stage of the project during a meeting on Thursday, 10 November.

The scheme, which is being built as part of the wider Auchinairn Place approach, had been revised following the removal of the football club element of the initial design considerations, due to Glasgow City Football Club withdrawing from the development.


The re-designed plans include a modern early years nursery and new community centre with associated landscaping, access and parking. The adjusted building size and new location within the site also removes the need to provide temporary nursery facilities during the build stage.

Council Leader Rhondda Geekie said: "Moving to the detailed design and tender stage for the fabulous new facility we are proposing in Auchinairn is welcome progress.  From the feedback we have received to date, we firmly believe that the nursery and community centre will be well used and will become a central part of community life in the area."

The detailed design, statutory consents and market testing undertaken during this next phase will inform the final programme for the build, which will be presented to a future council meeting for approval.
