Work To Continue On Projects Worth £3.1m In East Dunbartonshire

Construction News Image
Work is to continue on two redevelopment projects worth £3.1 million in East Dunbartonshire.

The council has voted in favour of moving forward with the detailed design stage for a £1.1m internal refurbishment of the Bishopbriggs Memorial Hall, as well as building work on the £2m Bishopbriggs Community Hub scheme.

In addition, plans have been approved to continue services for residents during the schemes' construction phase, by agreeing to firstly refurbish the War Memorial Hall before beginning the remodelling of Bishopbriggs Community Hub. This method will allow the library to decant into the war memorial hall upon completion, providing at least one facility, either the library or hall, for public use during the redevelopments.

Work on the £2m Hub development includes improving current library facilities via a full refurbishment and upgrade of the current accommodation. Once completed, the Hub will bring together council, library, leisure and cultural services in a single building which will contain a multi-purpose room for children's activities and reading groups, a computer learning suite, private rooms for confidential business and an enhanced heritage space incorporating the Thomas Muir Museum.

Deputy Council Leader, Billy Hendry, said: "The absence of Council and library services in Bishopbriggs during construction was of great concern to many residents I have spoken to about these projects. As a consequence of the Council's decision the Community Hub remodelling will now be completed after the refurbishment of the War Memorial Hall is finished, but it is important that we deliver these developments with minimal disruption to the local community.

"It is an exciting time for Bishopbriggs and I am delighted that we are now moving forward with the delivery of these facilities. The Community Hub and War Memorial Hall refurbishment are part of the Council's initial plans to develop the town centre and will be supported by a further £2m investment over the coming years."
