Gourock Shortlisted For Accolade At Regeneration Awards
Gourock has been nominated for an accolade at the annual SURF awards.
The town is shortlisted along with three other finalists in the 'Scotland's Most Improved Town' category. The winner will be announced in Glasgow's Grand Central Hotel on Tuesday, 06 December.
The SURF Awards aim to promote regeneration initiatives large and small from across Scotland.
Gourock has been selected due to its £5.2 million regeneration by Riverside Inverclyde on behalf of the council.
Work has included a new one-way system in Kempock Street and Lower Kempock Street aimed at improving traffic flow in the town centre area, as well as a new car park created east of Gourock station.
In addition, revetments works were also completed at Kempock Street car park after inspectors uncovered damage to the existing sea wall. Increased car parking provision and road was developed as well as a new public space along the waterfront, a redesign of public spaces at each end of Kempock Street and new paving and road resurfacing on Kempock Street.
Cllr Michael McCormick said: "I am delighted that the improvements and regeneration of Gourock are gaining such national recognition. The regeneration work in Gourock built on the many existing assets already in the town and which make Gourock one of the most attractive and interesting town centres in Scotland.
"It is no coincidence that Gourock is receiving so much national recognition. The Council, through our delivery partners at Riverside Inverclyde, have put in place, thanks to the recent £5m investment a once in a lifetime improvement to the town centre in Gourock.
"With a significant level of investment, some fantastic local assets like the Gourock Outdoor Heated Pool and some of the best shopping, cafes and bars around, it's no wonder that Gourock is getting recognised in this way."
