Bridge Beams To Arrive For £745m AWPR/B-T Project

Construction News Image
Nearly 50 bridge beams are due to begin arriving at the £745 million Aberdeen Western Peripheral Route/Balmedie-Tipperty (AWPR/B-T) project site.

A total of 48 beams are being delivered to develop the new Milltimber Junction Overbridge.

Half of the structures will begin arriving between Saturday, 08 October and Monday, 10 October. A further 24 will be delivered between Saturday, 15 October and Monday, 17 October.

A spokesperson for Transport Scotland said: "The contractor has been working closely with Police Scotland and the local authorities to minimise any inconvenience that may be caused due to beam deliveries. The deliveries are due to take place during off-peak travelling periods between 9.30am and 3.30pm when the roads are quieter for safety reasons.

"Beam deliveries are integral to the project, which will have 75 principal structures, including two river crossings, one railway bridge, and over 70 culverts. A significant number of these deliveries are expected over the next six months or so."

The AWPR/B-T project is expected to bring in an additional £6 billion to the north-east economy and create around 14,000 jobs over the next 30 years, including more than 1,000 jobs for the construction industry.

The project is due for completion in 2018.
