Work Continues On £530,000 Bridge Reconstruction Project

Work is continuing on a £530,000 bridge reconstruction project in Aberdeen.

The Rob Roy Bridge in Peterculter is being rebuilt in order to safeguard the structures future stability.

Works include the demolition of the reinforced concrete section of the bridge, which will be redeveloped to modern standards. The original masonry arch is circa 1800 and the arch beam/column north section is circa 1920.


In order to carry out the project, the bridge is to be closed overnight on two separate dates and a weekend to allow equipment to be moved for the final stages of the project. Diversions will be in place.

The closure dates are:

• 6am – 8pm; Sunday, 02 October.

• 6am on Saturday, 22 October - 5am on Monday, 24 October.

• 7pm on Friday. 28 October – 5am on Monday, 31 October.

Cllr Ross Grant said: "We hope to avoid as much disruption as possible and will aim to open the bridge earlier if all goes to plan.

"Due to the complex nature of the work and that it is a very restricted site, it will be necessary to have complete closures at times and the intention is to limit these to weekends."
