Land Energy Girvan To Expand South Ayrshire Facility

Construction News Image
Renewables firm Land Energy Girvan is to invest £6.4 million to expand its manufacturing facility in South Ayrshire.

The project will see at least 10 new jobs created at the site, while a further 28 jobs will be secured. The company plans to increase output at the facility, which produces premium grade wood pellets using locally sourced sustainable timber, from 60,000 tonnes-per-annum to 90,000 tonnes.

In addition, the firm has secured a £250,000 Regional Selective Assistance grant from Scottish Enterprise in a bid to increase capacity and drive productivity.

Managing Director of Land Energy Girvan, John Westmacott, said: "The UK premium wood pellet market has grown rapidly in the last 5 years and is now worth £100m per annum. The new investment in the Girvan plant will ensure that Land Energy continues to be a leading player in this market as it continues to grow."

Business Minister Paul Wheelhouse added: "Scotland is home to a thriving and innovative business sector and I'm delighted that Land Energy Girvan Limited are investing in a £6.4 million expansion of their site. This welcome investment is projected to create 10 new jobs and safeguard 28 existing jobs in the Scottish supply-chain supporting generation of renewable, biomass energy, and will reduce biomass customers' reliance on imported wood pellet supplies."
