Fugro Geoservices has secured a £1.2 million contract to carry out ground investigations as part of the A9 Dualling programme.
The award marks the third ground investigation contract of this summer and will help progress two schemes; Tay Crossing to Ballinluig and Pitlochry to Killiecrankie.
Transport Scotland said the stretch between Dowally and Ballinluig will be carried out separately as both online and offline options are being considered for the route.
Transport Minister, Humza Yousaf said: "This latest significant ground investigation contract will help inform the design work for two of the sections to be dualled.
"Over the next few months some of this work will take place on or near the live carriageway. In order to ensure the safety of both road workers and road users we will need to introduce traffic management arrangements.
"Road users and local communities will be kept informed of our plans and we will endeavour to ensure that any disruption is kept to a minimum, recognising that there are on-going construction works between Kincraig and Dalraddy. Work on the Kincraig to Dalraddy site is expected to be completed next summer."
The £3 billion A9 Dualling project involves upgrading 80 miles of single carriageway on the A9 between Perth and Inverness by 2025.
The ground investigation work is expected to begin in September and completion is scheduled for the end of this year.
