Concerns have been raised over Scotland's ability to meet its 'affordable' housing targets in the wake of the UK's recent Brexit vote.

A survey by CIH Scotland has revealed nearly 70% of its members are worried the Government will not be able to build 10,000 'affordable' homes a year due to the referendums negative impact on their development plans.

Housing professionals also expressed concerns over future impacts on community cohesion and the ability of minority groups to access housing.


With official figures showing the social housing sector has declined from 5,989 completed units in 2009 to 3,458 units in 2015/16, CIH Scotland Director Annie Mauger said the survey demonstrates how much uncertainty there is in the Scottish housing industry.

"In these times of economic and political uncertainty, we must ensure that we continue to work together to provide the new homes Scotland needs to support its growing population," she said.

"Just as worrying as the lack of confidence in home-building is the concern members have about the potential impact of the recent referendum vote on our communities. The housing sector has always had a strong role in promoting community cohesion and this must remain a key focus going forward."
