A major milestone has been reached to transform a former Exxon terminal site in West Dunbartonshire.
The oil and gas company has signed an access agreement with the council as part of the £28 million regeneration project at Bowling.
The deal will allow necessary studies to be carried out as part of the local authority's plan to redevelop the derelict land.
Plans include creating a major industrial and commercial development to support 690 full time jobs, as well as building a new road.
The project is part of the Glasgow City Region City Deal, with the council contributing £3.8m towards the overall scheme and the remainder being funded by UK and Scottish Government grants.
Work is already underway on wildlife examination at the site, as well as a flooding assessment of Milton Burn.
Negotiations to purchase the site are still ongoing and are expected to be concluded by April next year.
Cllr Patrick McGlinchey said: "The Council is continuing to work very closely with Exxon as we move forward with our plans for redeveloping the site. This project is a key regeneration priority for the Council as we aim to improve economic growth and employability across West Dunbartonshire. The access agreement is a major milestone for the project and allows us to progress to the next stage."
