Work To Improve Shop Fronts In Kirkcaldy Begins

Construction News Image
Work to improve the exterior of shops in Templehill, Kirkcaldy, is underway following the confirmation of funding by the Kirkcaldy Area Committee.

Structural and cosmetic work will replace columns and canopies to improve the run down appearance of the area.

Chair of the Kirkcaldy Area Committee and local ward member Cllr Neil Crooks is delighted that work has begun: "This project has been years in the making and is testament to the dogged determination of the local councillors and community, particularly the Dallas Drive Tenants & Residents Association.

"We started on this journey around seven years ago and there were several obstacles along the way that made it feel like it might never happen. Difficulties aside though, we had great support from various Council officers who really went the extra mile to help build a solid business case for investment .It's thanks to the ideas of local people, and their involvement in shaping these proposals and plans, that we've got a programme of works that doesn't just focus on building maintenance but will improve the surrounding area for everyone."

He added: "A secure service area behind the shops is being created alongside resurfacing work to the front and side of the shops and a new service bay. Seating, shrub beds and new parking bays will also be added to the area to help provide a pleasant environment for people to enjoy and hopefully help increase footfall to the shops."
