£7.7m Primary School Shortlisted At Design Awards

A new £7.7 million primary school in East Dunbartonshire is on the shortlist for two national design awards, it has been announced.

The Lairdsland Primary School in Kirkintilloch has been nominated at the Royal Incorporation of Architects in Scotland (RIAS) Awards and the Scottish Design Awards.

The building was the first school to be built through the council's Primary School Improvement Programme in partnership with hub West Scotland (hWS) and was partly funded by Scottish Futures Trust.

In addition, it was designed by architects Walters & Cohen and built by Morgan Sindall.

Council Leader, Rhondda Geekie said: "We are extremely proud of Lairdsland Primary School and it is fantastic the building is getting all this recognition.

"It is easy to see why the building has been established as a reference design for primary schools in Scotland and why it is has been shortlisted for these prestigious awards."

The RIAS Awards are to be held on the 15 June at the Hilton Hotel, Glasgow and the Scottish Design Awards will take place at the Radisson Hotel in Glasgow on 25 May.
