North Larnarkshire Council has appointed Doig and Smith and Kier Construction to develop and produce plans to improve existing bus facilities in Cumbernauld.

The council is working with partners Campsies Centre (Cumbernauld) Ltd, Strathclyde Partnership for Transport (SPT) and Cumbernauld Town Centre to deliver the proposed improvements.

Councillor Allan Graham, Chair of Campsies Centre (Cumbernauld) Ltd, said: "We have good bus services to and from Cumbernauld but the stances are no longer fit for purpose. Through a partnership approach, we are making a significant investment in modernising the bus facilities and encouraging more use of public transport."


Stakeholders and the local community will be consulted as the proposal to upgrade the quality, function and appearance of the bus stances and waiting area is prepared. The first stage of the project, which will involve site investigation and initial design, is expected to take three months, with the cost of £49,500 being met by SPT.

The £2.2 million project is being delivered through the public-private partnership Hub South West, with work expected to start on site by January 2017.
