A £2.5 million primary school extension project is underway in West Lothian.
Improvement work is being carried out to the Toronto Primary School in Howden.
Features of the project include a new purpose built gym hall and changing areas, as well as a new accessible main entrance for the school and safe drop-off area out with the school grounds.
Internal alterations are also being carried out as well as re-roofing and insulating the existing classrooms.
The project aims to connect and expand the existing inner street which runs through the school, creating a new main office area and re-routing vehicles and pedestrians to the new entrance area.
The scheme is being funded by the council and the Scottish Futures Trusts, as well as being managed by the council's Housing, Construction & Building Services.
Cll Fitzpatrick said: "I'm delighted that work has started on new extension as part of the £2.5 million investment programme for Toronto Primary in Howden.
"Toronto pupils were able to input into the redesign specification, which will create a superb and uplifting atmosphere for education and benefit children, teachers and support staff.
"The brand new gym hall will boost opportunities for physical activity for local pupils, and will also be accessible to community groups."
The scheme was designed by Collective Architecture, in collaboration with consultants Scott Bennett Associates and EDP Consulting.
Construction work is being carried out by CCG and the project will be completed by Autumn 2016.
