The council approved a long term development plan of the site around the PEAK and Forthbank Stadium last year.
The first work phase includes increasing parking space, improving traffic flow, installing better lighting, upgrading bus drop-off facilities and improving pedestrian access.
Discussions are currently ongoing on what other sports can be hosted at the site, including a possible link to the National Cycle Network.

Proposals for a new ice-rink at The PEAK are also being developed by the council and partners.
The 12-week project is due to begin at the site on Monday, 22 February.
Cllr Corrie McChord said: "The long term vision is to expand and develop Stirling Sports Village to operate as the major hub for facilities for both the people of Stirling and visitors, providing a pathway from grassroots and recreational activities through to higher level performance sport.
"Fitting firmly with the Council's key priority to promote access to sport and physical activity for all it will also provide a range of opportunities for the business community to get involved and so help boost the local economy as well."
