Scottish Water is continuing with its £12.4 million flood project in Glasgow, it has been announced.
Infrastructure Secretary Keith Brown visited the scheme today, 27 January to view progress on the site at Elmvale Row in Springburn.
The project is part of Scottish Waters's £250m five-year investment in waste water infrastructure throughout the Greater Glasgow region.
During his visit, Mr Brown viewed two large underground storage tanks which will provide extra storm water storage in the local sewer network.
Both of the tanks are 25 metres in diameter and 18 metres deep. When completed, 13,500 cubic metres of access storm water can be stored within the structures.
Mr Brown said: "I am delighted to be here today and to see the works at Elmvale Row. This project is a key part of Scottish Water's massive investment in the waste water network across Greater Glasgow to improve the water quality in the River Clyde and its tributaries and to address sewer flooding.
"Sewer flooding is an extremely serious problem particularly where it enters people's homes, as has been the case here in Elmvale Row, and given previous occurrences of flooding over a number of years a permanent solution is required.
"I am therefore delighted to be able to see at first hand the progress on this vital project that will provide much needed relief to those who have been affected by floods in the past."
