Solar Panels To Be Installed On Council Homes In Aberdeenshire

New solar panels are to be installed on council houses across Aberdeenshire, it has been announced.

Contractors will fit the energy efficient panels on 1,200 homes over a three-year period.

The investment will improve the quality of council housing across the region in line with the Energy Efficiency Standard for Social Housing (EESSH) and Scotland's Sustainable Housing Strategy.

Councillor Martin Kitts-Hayes welcomed the initiative.

He said: "This is a huge clear demonstration of our commitment to creating energy efficient homes that are cheaper to run for our tenants and contribute to cutting greenhouse gas emissions and reducing fuel poverty."

Councillor Richard Thomson added: "We have an on-going programme of investment in our council houses, and this latest initiative is a welcome boost to cut costs for our tenants and contribute to meeting energy efficiency standards."

A tender for the works is due to be issued and the contract is set to be awarded in the spring.
