Progress Continues On Cultural Facility In Fife

Construction News Image
Progress is being made on a new museum and art gallery in Fife, it has been revealed.

A tower crane has now been introduced to the construction site of the Dunfermline Carnegie Library and Galleries in the town's Heritage Quarter.

Over the next 23 weeks, the tower will be used to off-load and distribute materials onto and around the site during construction of the concrete frame, external walls and roof.

So far, the town house next to the library has been partially demolished, while a structural steel frame has been erected along with concrete floor slabs.

A roof structure has also been installed behind the town house's retained façade.

Below ground foundations and ground floor slabs are now almost complete, while work on the concrete frame and upper floor slab works will begin soon.

The project is being delivered by BAM Construction.

Councillor Gavin Yates said: "This facility is set to be a great asset to the Heritage Quarter and wider town centre. The integrated cultural hub hopes to attract up to 280,000 visitors and contribute a visitor spend of at least half a million pounds to the local economy each year."

Doug Keillor, Regional Director for BAM Construction, added: "The crane going up is definitely a milestone for us and the team have done a lot of hard work behind the scenes to get us here.

"Getting out of the ground was a very challenging technical job so we're really looking forward to starting the superstructure and people will shortly be able to see the new building taking shape."
