£5.2m Galashiels TI Shortlisted For Two Awards

A £5.2m transport interchange in the Scottish Borders has been shortlisted in two categories of the Builder and Engineer Awards.

The scheme has been named in the Public Sector Project of the Year and Civil/Infrastructure Project of the Year sections.

It was developed by Hub South East Scotland.

The Galashiels Transport Interchange (TI) opened in August, a month before the start of the Borders Railway. It forms the town's new bus station and business hub, with facilities including a café, seating, tourist information, bus and train real-time information and a railway ticket machine.

In addition, it also has showers, changing facilities and bike lockers to promote cycling and walking.

Councillor Gordon Edgar said: "I am delighted that Galashiels Transport Interchange has been shortlisted for the Builder and Engineer Awards just a couple of months since it opened to the public.

"A key element of the award submission was that a community stakeholder group established 10 years ago helped shape the development of the TI to meet the needs of the community."

The Builder and Engineer Awards ceremony will take place later this month.
