East Dunbartonshire Council is to hold a series of public drop-in sessions on plans to revitalise Kirkintilloch town centre.

Details to regenerate Cowgate have been agreed following discussions with residents, visitors, community groups, businesses, charities and stakeholders.

The regeneration is part of the Kirkintilloch Town Centre Masterplan.

The exhibitions are to be held at Unit 7 of the Cowgate/Regent Centre on:

• Wednesday, 4 November, noon-7pm.

• Saturday, 7 November, 10am-5pm.

• Tuesday, 10 November, noon-7pm.

• Friday, 13 November, 10am-5pm.

The project includes the introduction of a 20mph limit, traffic-calming measures and redesigned junctions in the Cowgate area.

An Equality Design Forum was set up to look at the Cowgate plans and influenced decisions on kerbing, pavements, crossing points, gateways, signage, parking, public transport, trees, bollards and more.

Works are expected to begin in early 2016 and will be focused initially around the canal bridge/St Mary's area.

Council Leader Rhondda Geekie said: "We are determined to strike a new balance between pedestrians, cyclists and drivers by removing street clutter, narrowing carriageways and widening footways.

"The aim is to create a town centre that is welcoming to everyone."
