Councillors To Discuss Improvement Projects

West Dunbartonshire Councillors are to discuss proposals to develop a region in the area.

A total of 22 improvement projects to transform Dumbarton Rock and the waterfront have been identified through a Scottish Government funded Charrette held in Dumbarton in February.

A number of priority projects have also been identified.

The priority projects include:

• Creating a new waterfront path to connect the Dumbarton Rock and Castle with the town centre.

• Investigating the possibility of introducing a multi-use facility at the base of the Rock and Castle which could provide community facilities such as a café and exhibition space.

• Provide coach and car parking facilities in and around the Rock and Castle.

• Enhance the public areas close to the Rock and Castle and the approach from Castle Road.

• Improve the rock climbing area at the Rock.

• Complete the Castle improvement plan.

• Investigate the feasibility of installing floodlights to illuminate the Rock and Castle.

Jim McAloon, Head of Regeneration and Economic Development, said: "The design Charrette events proved very popular and helped us to engage with residents as we looked to shape the future of Dumbarton Rock, the Castle and the surrounding area.

"It was important that we took on the views of all interested parties so that we understood fully what the priorities should be when developing improvement projects. If the action plan gets the go ahead from Councillors it will provide the next step as we look to continue the regeneration of West Dunbartonshire."
