Eco Insulate was recently requested to provide a solution to overcome excessive condensation in a Biomass store. The Biomass unit was newly installed at Blairgowrie High School in Perthshire but the hatch over the fuel store was badly affected by condensation resulting in moisture dripping onto the biomass fuel and affecting its output.
Elastospray 1629 supplied by BASF was used to coat the underside of the hatch due to its high vapour impermeability. Any fixing difficulties were easily overcome as the foam has excellent adherence properties meaning it could be sprayed directly onto the underside of the steel hatch. Work was completed within half a day and with minimal disruption to the school and operation of the biomass unit.
This was the second project recently completed for Laing O’ Rourke, the first being to air seal treatment rooms at The Vale Centre for Health and Care in Alexandria.
To ensure the comfort of both medical personnel and patients, the rooms had to maintain a specific design temperature. This was proving difficult due to their exposed location at the end of each wing of the building. BASF Elastopor 2401 injectable open cell foam was used to seal in and around the SIPS panel construction, thus preventing heat loss through air leakage. An additional benefit was that the water blown, formaldehyde free formulation of the material makes it ideal for use in medical facilities. Work was completed over the weekend to minimise disruption and Bryan Woods, the MD of eco Insulate said: "Apart from their obvious use in new build applications, spray and injectable foams offer an ideal solution for resolving unexpected situations which sometimes arise during construction. We are pleased to have been able to work so closely with Laing O’Rourke on these projects and help them deliver major building projects that met their Clients expectations."
