Council To Develop £2m Ice Rink

South Lanarkshire Council has announced over £2 million is to be invested into a new ice rink.

The investment will be carried out alongside the redevelopment of a mall in East Kilbride.

The town centre leisure hub will include a variety of restaurants and a new commercial gym.

The developments will coincide with the existing cinema complex and the refurbished ice rink.

The East Kilbridge Task Force has worked closely with the Town Centre on plans for the leisure hub.

The Task Force includes representatives from the council, Scottish Enterprise, Business Gateway Lanarkshire Enterprise Services, Skills Development Scotland, Lanarkshire Chamber of Commerce, South Lanarkshire College and Orion Capital Managers.

Councillor Chris Thompson said: "Creating a leisure hub within the shopping centre is something we are delighted to support and I am sure will be a great success.

"This investment safeguards the future of the ice rink and ensures it will be at the heart of this exciting new leisure development."

Work on the new ice rink is expected to be completed by summer 2016, with the leisure hub opening soon afterwards.
