East Ayrshire Council has agreed further funding grants for the Cumnock Conservation Area Regeneration Scheme (CARS).

An additional £166,000 has been made available to develop three properties and improve their appearance.

Buildings at 30-34 Ayr Road will receive over £5,000 for a new shop front and minor upgrading works.

Properties at 21 and 22 The Square will be given over £61,000 for shop front upgrades, roofing, stonework and the renewal of doors and windows.


The Mercat Hotel, a B-listed building, will undergo extensive roofing works, new windows, replacement gutters and down pipes at an estimated cost of £250,000.

The Council has agreed funding capped at £100,000 towards the hotel.

Council Leader Douglas Reid said: "The regeneration of Cumnock and the town centre is a key priority for the Council and, since it began, the Cumnock CARS has supported projects with a value approaching £2.75m, helping to deliver significant improvements to a number of prominent buildings in the town."
