Scottish Water has transferred ownership of the unoccupied Maryfield Tram Depot to Dundee Museum of Transport.

Plans are in place to restore and redevelop the building to be a permanent home for the museum, currently located at Market Mews, Dundee.

Douglas Millican, Chief Executive of Scottish Water, said: "We wish the Dundee Museum of Transport continued success. Today they have taken an important step in establishing a permanent home for the Museum by acquiring the former Maryfield Tram Depot.


"We no longer required the building on this site and we have worked over the last couple of years on an agreement to hand the building over to the Museum."

The building has been unoccupied for a long period of time, previously used as a Scottish Water depot for storing vehicles and supplies.

Jimmy McDonell, Dundee Museum of Transport Chairman, said: "This is a fantastic opportunity for us and plans are well underway to secure the funds required to begin development. This is an exciting time for everyone involved, completing the biggest challenge that we have had to date."
