New Housing For Veterans Nears Completion

A new 24-house scheme in Inverness with five homes set aside for the Scottish Veterans Garden City Association (SVGCA) is nearing completion.

The SVGCA has been providing housing for disabled veterans in Scotland since 1915. Over £170,000 has been invested by the Scottish government into the Balloan Road development and £1.3m to SVGCA to complete 38 units in total across the country.

Veterans Secretary Keith Brown visited the development this week. He said: "Scotland’s veterans show such selflessness when this country needs them and we owe a particular debt of gratitude to them. They put themselves on the line to defend and protect the democratic freedoms we cherish.

"The Scottish Government values and support our Armed Forces community and it is our duty to those courageous men and women to offer them support and assistance when they need it. This excellent housing development will integrate veterans with other residents, and reinforces our view that veterans have a considerable part to play in Scottish society."
