ECO Stars Fleet Recognition Scheme Launches

A scheme has been launched to urge fleet operators to tackle air pollution.

The ECO Stars fleet recognition scheme is aimed at fleet operators of all sizes who are based locally or those who operate regularly in the South Lanarkshire area.

It is hoped they will join the scheme and not only increase their efficiency, but help improve local air quality.

To mark the launch of the free green recognition ECO Stars scheme several fleet operators joined the council's Fleet Services for the South Lanarkshire launch.

Councillor George Greenshields, the depute chair of the Community Services Committee said: "I am delighted that more than 30 local operators have already chosen to join the scheme especially after our very own Fleet Services became the first member of South Lanarkshire ECO Stars Scheme last year, attaining the overall operational rating of 4 stars.

"Our vision remains constant, to improve the quality of life for everyone in South Lanarkshire.

"Taking part in the scheme shows just how commercial vehicle fleet operators are working to improve our air quality, reduce fuel consumption and the efficiency of the fleet, making South Lanarkshire a cleaner, greener place for all.

"I am positive the scheme will continue to grow and help us to achieve our priorities of being a sustainable council and it will strengthen our partnership working, community leadership and engagement within our communities."
