The Scottish Green Infrastructure Forum (SGIF) has published details of this year's conference. The conference is part of Glasgow's Green Year 2015.

The conference will take place later this year, on 6 and 7 October 2015, at Glasgow City Chambers and will reflect the SGIF's broader scope of work.

The SGIF will continue to build on the work of the Forum, from promoting the inclusion of green roofs to encouraging the use of all green infrastructure in Scotland, with an emphasis on urban areas.

SGIF focuses on urban and built green infrastructure, with particular emphasis on green roofs, green walls, green streets, rain-gardens, sustainable urban drainage systems and green networks. The Forum is made up of a group of organisations, businesses and individuals with an interest in promoting and encouraging the building of green infrastructure.


Green infrastructure is a term used to describe the green features that exist in landscape, and can include anything from existing parks and greenspaces to designed environmental features like green roofs and street trees.

Not only does green infrastructure provide environmental benefits and biodiversity refuges, it can help to mitigate against climate change. It is also widely recognised as important for physical and mental health and wellbeing.

As part of Glasgow's Green Year 2015, SGIF will host a conference on 6 and 7 October 2015 at Glasgow City Chambers. The conference, in conjunction with Glasgow City Council, aims to bring together expertise from a range of sectors, including architects, engineers, ecologists, flood risk officers and the health care sector, to help develop an understanding of the issues surrounding the approaches and techniques available for green infrastructure in order for installations and interventions to be successful.

SGIF has invited potential delegates to submit an abstract for presentations that will be of interest to those attending the event. Abstracts should be less than 150 words, and submitted with a short biography of around 50 words to info@sgif.org.uk.

The deadline for submissions is 30 March 2015.

Conference themes can include green roofs, walls & buildings; health & well-being; lessons from at home and abroad; habitat & biodiversity in towns; and water management.
