Dunoon Primary School is to undergo a series of improvements, Argyll and Bute Council has announced.

Around £3.5m will be invested in the school, with a further £4m expected to be provided by the Scottish Government, following a funding application from the local authority.

Having undertaken discussions with the government, as well as Historic Scotland, Hub North Scotland Ltd and the Scottish Futures Trust, it was decided that a refurbishment with a part new-build, was the best option for the school.


Upon completion of the work, the school will cater for 300 pupils and 30 Early Years placed, while a new sports hall will also be created.

Councillor Aileen Morton, Policy Lead for Education, commented: "Following the Council's commitment earlier this year to provide a new Kirn Primary School, I am pleased to see another significant step forward being taken in delivering high quality school facilities for all young people in Argyll and Bute.

"I welcome the compromise agreed by Historic Scotland that allowed us to find an affordable and suitable solution for Dunoon Primary. Our focus is on providing an outstanding education service that allows our young people to thrive."
