Designs for the new-look Saughton Park and Gardens in Edinburgh are to be unveiled next week.
Initial designs for the £5.3m redevelopment will be placed on public display, Edinburgh Council has confirmed. The drop-in event, which will be held on Tuesday 16 December, will allow the local community to view and discuss the plans with the designer – Ironside Farrar Ltd.
The exhibition will be held at the Saughton Park Winter Garden on Tuesday 16 December, between 4pm and 8pm.
The design team also includes Sutherland Hussey Architects, Peter McGowan Associates, Richard Shorter Architect and David Narro Associates. The development of the park aims to bring back the garden's historic elements. Last year, the scheme secured almost £400,000 from the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) to develop a design plan for the park and gardens.
Welcoming the progress being made in relation to the project, Councillor Lesley Hinds, Environment Convener, said: "This is a very important stage in the project to revive Saughton Park and its wonderful gardens, as we get a first glimpse of designers' vision for restoring it to its former glory.
"We have been eager to involve local people throughout this process, and now the community can come along and tell us what they think of these exciting new ideas."
Saughton Park first opened to the public in 1905. In 1908 it was redesigned for the Scottish National Exhibition, resulting in a number of new features being created such as sporting facilities, a bandstand and winter and botanical gardens.
