Groups Benefit From Community Development Fund

Grants of more than £30,000 have been given to a number of community groups in Clackmannanshire.

The funds were made available under the Community Development Fund. Set up as part of 'Making Clackmannanshire Better', the £200,000 fund aims to encourage communities to work with the local authority to improve the local environment and facilities.

Applications opened earlier this year and five groups have already been successful with funding. They include:

• Alloa Allotments - £5,082 for new fencing

• Alva Bowling Club - £7,560 to create disabled access and artificial bankings

• Cambus and District Bowling Club - £3,840 to improve the roof

• Hawkhill Community Centre - £8,616 for new lighting

• Hillfoots Rugby Club - £8,791 to upgrade the toilets.

Les Sharp, Clackmannanshire Council Leader, said: "I am delighted that five local groups have been successful in their applications to the Community Development Fund.

"I hope that in the coming month community groups from throughout Clackmannanshire will be inspired by these successful projects and apply to the fund to help improve their local area or their facilities."

Applications can still be submitted to Clackmannanshire Council for capital expenditure such as new buildings, permanent improvements and refurbishments.

To be applicable, the project has to be planned to start within the current financial year and completed within 12 months of starting. It should also provide more integrated accessible services for local communities. Activities which contribute to the regeneration or development of an area can include creating an attractive and safe environment, securing land and bringing buildings into effective use, and providing employment for local people.

Groups can apply for 60% of the total project cost, up to a maximum of £10,000 including any VAT.

The closing date for applications is 31 December 2014.
